Finger Painting, Take One

Once the time changed, Connor got up early...way too early. As many mommies know, when your child gets up an hour or longer before normal wake up time, it makes for a very stretched out morning. Add a lethargic Mom on a rainy day, and you can bet that when the clock read 8:30, it felt like 10:30. I think I appear crafty and domesticated on the outside, but really, I'm not. The idea of making a big mess for 5-10 minutes for an unorganized, silly little craft seems more annoying than anything.

But, I guess the beauty of having an 18-month old is trying new things and letting go of such annoyances. So, I stripped Connor down to his diaper, plopped him on the dining room table, and broke out the finger paints. To my surprise, he didn't make too much of a mess, and it was actually kind of relaxing watching him use his creativity and listening to music. Connor didn't like to use his fingers too much, but he made some great pictures with the decorative sponges and popsicle sticks.

All was fine and dandy until...

Connor took a heaping spoonful of blue finger paint right to the mouth!

I yelled, "No!" Connor started crying, his mouth all blue. So, I picked him up (getting paint all over my sweatshirt), brought him directly upstairs and into the bathtub. All was well, and his paintings became "I am thankful for..." cards for his Grand and God parents. My only regret was not taking a picture of his deep blue finger painted mouth. Although, I think I would've been a bad mom to pause for a picture during what looked like a horrible tasting experience for my lil fella.

There will definitely be more finger paintings in the future, but maybe we won't be using spoons as painting utensils next time around.
